Upland Technicolor

The rooster pheasant’s colorful plumage stands brashly juxtaposed to the fact that it spends so much of it’s life hiding from the likes of hawks, foxes and hunters. While it’s feathers are dazzling, with colors as diverse and bright as any sunrise, trust me, when he wants to hide, he can hide. Many times have I walked in front of a dog on point in knee-high grass only to kick around blindly for more than a minute before finally rousting a rooster from his hiding place.

To hold a ruby-breasted ringneck in your hands that just seconds before was crowing into flight is a privilege and a responsibility not taken lightly. It’s also a rare enough event that each one is truly a memorable gift.

Thanks Dave, they sure are. It’s hard not to pause and admire each and every bird prior to stuffing it in the game-bag.
