The feuding NFL recently hosted its annual draft of collegiate talent. All thirty two teams get a pick in each of the seven rounds. I asked Laura which pick she thought was the best.
Laura: The first! The first pick is the best. You get the chance to pick the best player.
Me: While you’re right, every team would rather have the last pick in each round. So if you ask me, the last pick is the best.
Laura: That doesn’t make any sense, why would they want the last pick?
Me: Green Bay had the last pick this year.
Laura: So?
Me: Well, the last pick goes to the team who finished first the year before. If you pick last it typically means you’re the reining champion.
Laura: Remember this story and use it if our kids ever come home crying because they were picked last for kickball.
