The Custom Crock

At a conference luncheon in Dallas this week a young lady sat down next to me. I introduced myself, and as she did the same I couldn’t help but notice that she had a rather strong Australian accent. We chatted about her homeland and mine above the din of the clanging forks and knives of other conference attendees who were busily eating their brisket.

After ensuring that we’d established a good, professional rapport I couldn’t stop myself from throwing a joke into the conversation.

Me: While I’ve never been to Australia, I have watched all three Crocodile Dundee movies, so I feel like I have a solid grasp on the culture and customs of your country.

She nodded and smiled as she finished her bite before responding.

Sheila: Ah yes. And I’ve been to a couple of hockey games, so naturally I’ve got Canada pretty much all figured out, too.
