In almost every way, 2020 was a pretty tough year. It’s nice to finally put it behind us.
The Atkinson boys rang in the new year with a short pheasant hunt the afternoon of January 1st.
- COVID kept us away from Tim for most of the year – it was great to share the field with him.
- It’s been more than 10 years since Dad, Tim and I pheasant hunted together – it was wonderful to reconnect.
- It was Finn’s first pheasant hunt, and the fact that it we killed a few late season roosters makes it a day he’s likely to never forget.
- There was something really special about having three generations in the field at the same time. I hope we get to do it again 100 times in the seasons ahead.
- And finally, later this month Indie will turn 13, putting her at the far end of her upland hunting career. She nailed several birds this day, putting on a great show for young and old.
For all of the reasons above, it was a pretty special afternoon. Everything seemed to come together in a way that it hasn’t for many months.
I can’t think of a better way to spend the first day of the new year. Hopefully it’s a sign of great things to come in the year ahead. Happy new year from a bunch of happy hunters!
