Estrada Know Nada

A couple of years ago I was at a tradeshow in Chicago with a handful of coworkers. After a day of work at the booth, we rode a bus back to our hotel. This bus ride was sponsored by a business partner who hired Erik Estrada to schmooze the bus riders for the evening.

On account of his mild creepiness, my coworkers beseeched me to sit next to him and to have him sign portraits for their wives, friends and even for themselves. One for Deb, one for Becca, one for Kem, Peter, Doug, and so on.

After signing a dozen headshots he looked over at me.

Erik: Can’t I sign one for you, brother?

Me: Yeah, um, don’t take this the wrong way, but I have no idea who you are.

Erik: (laughing) That’s ok. I can still sign on for you. C’mon, who should I make it out to?

Me: Well, since you insist, you can make it out to my friend… eBay Buyer.

So he did.

It’s true. I was there. This was a classic moment in our work history, that I had forgotten. Thanks for bringing back the memory of Chicago, Ponch and the bus ride that never seemed to end.

Thanks Shandra! At the very least writing this blog and telling these stories both makes me happy and is a ton of fun. By the way, how’d you like an Estrada headshot? I’ve got one I’m trying to get rid of….
