A rust-colored, late-model Nissan sat in front of me and spewed blue exhaust smoke as we sat waiting for the downtown Olathe train to pass. As the flashing gates lifted, a passenger in the smokey Sentra rolled down his window and tossed out an empty Taco Bell cup. When the cup hit the ground its translucent plastic lid popped off and a dozen ice cubes slid to rest in the dirty brown snow on the side of the road. It’s not very often that I see someone litter so brazenly, but it must occur as evidenced by the beer cans, food wrappers and bottles that litter the streets in some parts of town.
Today after church Laura and I passed through an upscale neighborhood on the south edge of the city. Gated communities lined the road as BMWs, Mercedes and Jaguars purred by. Medians with fountains and foliage divided lanes of traffic. As I drove, a glint of sunlight from the base of a tree caught my attention. Looking closer I saw that the reflective surface was the shiny glass of a discarded green wine bottle.
As it turn out, rich people litter too.

I look forward to the ways you express your experiences Aaron.
Some are reflective, some humerous some a little quirky——and I like them.
Thanks Aunt Mary. I suppose it’s good to be well-rounded. Glad you enjoy reading!
how do you know it was rich person who littered. maybe the Nissian Sentra driver was just ahead of you?
A fair point. However, I suspect that if the Sentra was the wine litterer it wouldn’t have been a glistening bottle, but instead a soggy box of the cheap stuff.
