In the Heat of the Night

As it so often seems to do, Spring has forgotten to visit Kansas City. Going back to April, most every day has either been 60 and grey or 88 and humid. The 70 degree blue bird days were leapfrogged and now that we’re into June it feels very much like summer is here.

I feel this harsh reality the most in the night. Since hot air has a bad habit of rising, my second-floor bedroom always seems to be at least a dozen degrees warmer than the first floor. And since the thermostat is in the living room on the first floor, the air conditioning is simply no help.

I woke up the other night at 12:18 a.m. My room was dark and still, my skin hot and clammy. I rose from my bed to check the thermometer in my bedroom. It read 84. I then walked downstairs to lower the thermostat. But it read 72.

So I trudged back upstairs, grabbed a pillow and blanket, trudged back downstairs, and slept blissfully on the couch.

Only three more months to Fall.

Sounds like we might need to get a bigger couch after we are married….

I’ll take the couch. You can have the love seat. I’m bigger than you are. 🙂
