The Marriage Markup

Pictured above are the flower girl baskets that we purchased for our wedding. We bought them at Hobby Lobby for $5 each. I had a can of white spray paint and I dressed the plain, brown whicker up to a more appropriate wedding color. While these baskets were never designed to be used for this purpose, Laura and I agree that they’ll be perfect.

I tell you all this, because Laura spent days scouring the Internet for wedding flower girl baskets. The cheapest on that she could find that fit the bill was $45.

This example confirmed something that’s been continually reinforced throughout the wedding-planning process… the word “wedding” is a million dollar word. I’ve listed a few more examples below….

Prom corsage: $40. Wedding corsage: $100.

Limo ride: $80. Limo on your wedding day: $400.

Cake: $40. Wedding cake: $800.

Dress: $80. Bridesmaid dress: $250.

Bouquet of flowers: $40. Bouquet of wedding flowers: $300.

Now, it’s not that I’m cheap. But give me 15 minutes and a can of white spray paint and I am convinced that I could save thousands.
