We’re at my cousin’s birthday dinner. For spring break, they visited my parents in Des Moines. You can’t visit my parent’s house without eating… a lot.
Adam: You’re Mom sure did feed us.
Me: It’s always a treat to eat Mom’s cooking.
Adam: Yeah, but I’m trying to lose weight, and she’s like Paula Dean. Speaking of, I don’t know how your Dad does it.
Me: Does what?
Adam: Keeps his cholesterol under 300. Well, I guess he does bike 100 miles a day, that’s got to help, eh?
Me: Yeah, he’s got to watch it. Though I think his cholesterol is creeping back up a little bit.
Adam: Is he still taking his heart meds?
Me: I don’t think so. He says he doesn’t like the way they make him feel.
Adam: Yeah, those pesky heart meds. They have a way of making you feel so darn… alive.
