Bye Bye Birdy

A few weeks ago, Laura was pretty concerned that a neighborhood cat would find our resident robin’s nest and that it would eat the chick. It turns out her worry, while warranted, was misdirected. Apparently, in it’s first week, a robin chick doesn’t fly far from it’s nest, and on account of this unfortunate fact, our very own black and white bird hunter make quick work of the fledgling bird that landed in our backyard.

Laura: Oh no! Indie just caught and killed that robin chick.

Me: Bummer. Did she eat it?

Laura: No, it’s dead on the ground. She’s just standing over it wagging her tail.

Me: Hmmm. I’m surprised she didn’t eat it. It must not have tasted very good.

Laura: You’d think it would have tasted nice and succulent… like robin veal.

I can’t tell you how many times I considered taking the four eggs in that robins nest and making a nice four egg omelet. But Laura told me “no”!
