The underbelly of vacation planning

Laura and I are planning a trip to San Diego this fall.

Laura: How long do you want to stay?

Me: I don’t know… four days?

Laura: Four days!?! Why even go at all!?!

Me: How long do you want to stay?

Laura: At least a week.

Me: A week? What if an earthquake happens on day six, causing California to break off into the ocean and drown us both. You do realize it would be all your fault.

Laura: Honey, California is not going to fall into the ocean in our lifetime.

Me: You might be right. Or you might be dead wrong. It may not happen in our lifetime… it might happen on day six at the end of our lifetime!

    Must-visit breakfast place in San Diego: The Mission, which has, arguably, the best French Toast ever created by man.
