Make New Friends, But Keep the Old

I just spent two weeks in Europe. I made dozens of new friends from several different countries. Active friends who ran, jumped, dove, swam, rode and shot all day long. Some of my better friends had wonderful stories that endeared them to me in a moment. For an hour or two each day once my work was done, my house was clean and my dogs were walked, I found time to catch up on all of the amazing things that my friends had done that day.

But these friendships were highly one-sided. And like all good things, they came to an end. I’ll miss you Phelps, Franklin, Bolt. I’ll miss you too Al, Ryan and Bob.

In the quiet of evening when there’s nothing more to watch on television, I’m not sure how I’ll occupy my time. I’ll suppose I’ll shut off the TV and have a cleaner house, go for longer walks, and probably get more sleep.
