Baseball is Back

Growing up as a baseball playing kid in Canada, I’ve always loved my Toronto Blue Jays. I’ll never forget dancing for joy in the living room in the autumns of 1992 and 1993 as the Jays brought world championships to the SkyDome and to Canada in back to back seasons. Those were the glory days.

I’ll always be a Jays fan, but I’m also a believer in cheering for your home team. So when I moved to Kansas City in 2005, I adopted the Royals as my second favorite team.

As luck would have it, neither of my baseball teams have been very good of late. In fact, they’ve both been pretty bad. The Jays have had to compete with the heavy-spending Yankees and Red Sox for the last 20 seasons, and the Royals, well they’re just perpetually rotten.

I read a statistic the other day. Since returning from the strike in 1994, every team in baseball has made the playoffs at least once, except for a lowly pair of teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals.

But baseball is back. It’s the start of a fresh season full of renewed possibility and a chance to finally break the 20 year slump.

So let’s go boys, play ball – and win!
