Fit to be Thai-ed

Thai food fills me up. It’s delicious, so I eat it slowly, savoring the rich interplay of complex flavors. It’s spicy, and while I like the heat, my internal thermometer is always premature in letting me know that I’ve had enough. And finally, it’s heavy on carbs, so it’s rather easy to feel full.

When we eat Thai food we’ll typically order one dish less than the total number of people. Then we share the meal family style.

Laura is typically good for one round of food. I usually go back for selective seconds. But when Laura and I joined my Dad at Hot Basil a few weeks ago, I couldn’t believe the voracity with which he polished off plates one, two and then all of the leftover scraps.

Me: I don’t know where you put it, Dad.

Laura: Yeah, I’m stuffed.

Dad: I learned one thing many moons ago – when it comes to Thai food, I never get full. Speaking of, could you pass the last of that Pad Thai?
