Today I took a mid-afternoon break from the yard work for a quick bite of lunch. Salad in hand, I plopped in front of the TV. I remembered that the Blue Jays are playing the Yankees this weekend. I searched for and found that the game was on. I haven’t watched the Jays play in months, and even though there was one out in the bottom of the eighth, it was still a bit of thrill to catch the tail end of the game.
Toronto was leading 1-0. An insurance run or two would sure be nice.
Melky Cabrera was up. He turned on a high 3-2 pitch and hit a homerun to right center. Two pitches later on an 0-2 count, Colby Rasmus lined a high fastball into the corner for a ground-rule double. And then a few pitches later, Jose Bautista lined a two-run homer over the left field fence. I’d been watching the game for five minutes and just like that Toronto scored three runs on a double and two homers.
With that, I flicked off the television and went back to the yard work – I can’t cash in all of my good luck on the Blue Jays.
