The younger kids are playing with new tubes of brightly colored bath paint in the tub. Finn splashes in a few minutes late and as he gets in, he yells at Gray for slapping him in the face. She promptly denies it but he calls me into the bathroom with tears in his eyes.
Finn: Daddy, she hit me!
Gray: No I didn’t! He’s lying.
I look at Finn’s face and turn his cheek.
Me: Where’d she slap you buddy?
Finn: Right here! (He motions to the paint handprint on his cheek.)
I look towards Gray. Her little hands are covered in blue paint. An instant too late she dunks her blue hands under the water and tries to slosh the evidence away.
Her bashful grin washes away any repercussions.
