We’re on a plane. Laura is playing checkers against the computer on the iPad. She has the ability to control the difficultly of her electronic opponent. She has the difficulty set to zero and she wins. She sets it to one and she wins. She continues to creep up until she reaches six, and she loses.
Me: Bummer. You lost to the computer. Just dial it back to five and you’ll probably win again.
Laura: Nah, I don’t like winning all the time. But then again, I don’t like losing either.
Me: Well, ain’t that a pickle.
