Famine to Feast

Every Fall at work I get my blood drawn as part of a wellness screening that lowers my medical premium. In addition to $15 per paycheck saved, I also get a fancy report that details countless numerics gained from the analysis of my blood. While I generally maintain a pretty healthy lifestyle, in the few days prior to my blood draw, I’m especially diligent about watching my fat, sugar and cholesterol intake.

My drawing was this morning. Last night for dinner I had a small portion of leftover Chinese food, no dessert, plenty of water and then nothing to eat for 12 hours prior to my 9:30 a.m. appointment. After Chinese last night Laura had a small bowl of ice cream. She also had some leftover Halloween candy, and an apple to balance it all out. I watched in disdain and made the best out of the garlicky aftertaste from the Lo Mein noodles.

After supper tonight, I got even. I ate the rest of her ice cream. Right from the carton. It was good.

Sage advice, oh wise one! In the winter though, I’m more of a pie and cookie guy.
