I was preparing a chicken dish for dinner recently, but I was short one ingredient.
Laura: How’s dinner going?
Me: It’s ok. I’ve pulled everything I need from the cupboard, but I’m going to have to tweak the recipe the recipe a bit. We’re almost out of thyme.
Laura: Our guests won’t arrive until 6:30, can I go and pick something up at the store? Or we could just heat up a couple of frozen pizzas.
Me: You don’t want chicken?
Laura: Sure I do, but if you don’t have enough time to make it, I’m sure that everyone will be ok with something else.
Me: I think it’ll be ok. I’ll just use a little sage instead.
Laura: Sage won’t make it cook any faster.
Me: Right, but I think it’ll be an okay substitute for thyme.
She shoots me a skeptical look.
I finally see our confusion and hold up the empty spice rack jar.
Me: Thyme.
