A few months ago, I wrote a post about The Book of Eli. Well, the book is now published. Congratulations to Laura’s cousin Jayme and her husband Tim, who welcomed Eli to the world last Thursday evening. The other day we went to visit the growing family in the hospital. Eli was sleeping soundly, comfortably swaddled.
Tim: You see how tightly swaddled Eli is, Aaron?
Me: I sure do.
Tim: Well that’s no easy thing to do. (He puffs out his chest a bit.) You know I fancy myself a bit of a master swaddler.
Me: It looks like you’ve got it pretty well down.
He reaches into the baby basket and pulls out and oversized fleece blanket.
Tim: You know, I could probably even swaddle you.
We all have a chuckle.
Not to take anything away from Tim’s ever-present dry sense of humor. But this interaction confirms what I’ve often thought about hospitals. In the muted silence of hushed, respectful hospital tones, jokes get funnier.

I can’t wait until the family dinner where all of the boys actually decide it is a good idea to try to swaddle you 😉
That’d be one big blanket! 🙂
After so much time spent at the hospital last summer with my sister, and having been there last week… I know that your post is 100 percent true. Thanks for the reminder.
And thanks for your note Christa. Glad I’m not alone in this one!
