While I have yet to remove my wedding ring since the day Laura put it on, I will occasionally twist it over my knuckle, just to make sure it would come off if it had to. As I sat in the church pew next to Laura last Sunday, I showed her how the ring wouldn’t fit over my knuckle, as my finger had swelled slightly on account of the bike ride I’d taken earlier that morning.
Lovingly, threateningly, Laura leaned close to my ear and whispered, “And don’t you forget it.”

Your uncle Bill’s ring finger was saved from being lost in a farming accident by his wedding ring. The ring was mostly unscathed — just bent enough that it wouldn’t come off his finger for the next couple of decades.
I think my direct quote was “that’s right….locked down” 🙂
