As you may recall from an earlier post, Laura is a University of Missouri graduate and as such is a huge MU fan. She frequently expresses a fervently myopic zeal for her alma mater Tigers, and I generally support her. But every once in a while, she takes it a little too far.
The 2011 College Football Bowls were recently announced. In an interesting twist of fate, Laura’s Missouri Tigers are playing my favorite team, the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Me: Did you hear who Missouri is playing in their Bowl?
Laura: No. Who?
Me: Iowa.
Laura: (myopic zeal forthcoming) Hehehe… the boys in Black and Gold are going to rule the day!
Me: Right you are. I couldn’t agree more.
Laura: What do you mean? I thought you’d pull for Iowa.
Me: I am. It’s just that Missouri won’t be the only team wearing black and gold that day. Those are Iowa’s colors too!

Laura and I watched the first half together. Due to the similar color schemes of the teams she inadvertently cheered for an Iowa touchdown before realizing her mixup… “yeeeeaaaaahhhh baby! oh, noooooo baby!”
